Philips | Milliken

Milliken Carpet leads the textile and carpet industries in waste diversion to landfill with more than five years of zero waste diversion beginning in 1999. Milliken follows a Design for the Environment (DfE) philosophy, engineering all carpet products for extended life cycles and future renewal.

Always a green leader, Milliken Carpet led the industry by offering PVC-free carpet in 1986. This one change represents a green gain of more than 757 million pounds of PVC removed from the production cycle and ultimately from landfill.

In 2004, Milliken became the first and only textile manufacturer to be certified by the Leonardo Academy's Cleaner and Greener Program.

Milliken Carpet offers one of the industry's most comprehensive sustainable carpet recovery programs and evaluates all used carpet at the end of its useful life to determine the highest environmental value recovery possible.

Milliken leads the carpet and textile industry in OSHA VPP STAR sites.

TractionBack(tm), a patented high friction coating applied to carpet backing, from in-house Milliken Research enables adhesive-free installation, thus eliminating VOCs associated with glues, primers and sealers.

Milliken is the only carpet company to offer a lifelong flooring compatibility warranty for its modular carpet backings. The guarantee was introduced in 1994.

Milliken decreases its impact on the eco-system each year. Since 1990, Milliken has reduced its Environmental Footprint by more than 85 percent measured in six key categories Landfill, Energy, Water, Waste, HAP and CO2.

All Milliken Carpet products undergo Life Cycle Inventories and Life Cycle Analyses against the ISO 14040 standard as a working tool to evaluate all carpet components and their impact on the environment.

After more than a decade Earth Square(tm), the three-step closed loop recovery process, remains the only renewable commercial carpet program on the market.

More than 90 percent of Milliken products received the highest available rating by the CRI/GSA approved Appearance Retention Rating.

Milliken modular carpet with ES backing contributes the maximum allowable points for carpet in LEED NC, CI and EB. No other carpet may contribute more.

In 1969, Milliken & Company initiated a program that has transformed its headquarters into a horticultural testing ground and led to the establishment of the Noble Tree Foundation. Since 1981 when the company began in-house forest management, it has planted 8 million pine trees in addition to the headquarters arboretum and trees on the various plant grounds.

Milliken Carpet has reduced packaging 91% since 1991.

As part of Milliken Carpet's Natural Resource Stewardship, the company reduced water consumption by more than 50% from 1991 to 2003 while increasing production output.
